Sworn Translation Services for Companies
In Spain, a sworn translation is the only translation format recognised as legally valid before official bodies, courts, notaries, commercial registries, and public administrations, both domestically and internationally. Only a sworn translator officially certified by the MAEC (Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation) can issue documents with full legal standing.
At Mc LEHM, we provide sworn translation services for companies, law firms, public institutions, and organisations operating across borders. Our team of MAEC-certified sworn translators in Spain manages corporate, legal, and financial documentation in multiple languages, ensuring legal accuracy, full confidentiality, and on-time delivery on every project.

Frequently Asked Questions about Sworn Translation
What is a sworn translator and what documents can they certify?
A sworn translator is a professional officially certified by the MAEC (Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation) to issue translations with full legal validity.
They are the only professionals authorised to certify documents for submission before official bodies, courts, notaries, or foreign entities.
In the corporate sector, the most common documents are articles of association, incorporation deeds, annual accounts, powers of attorney, commercial contracts, and documentation for international public tenders.
They also certify personal documents such as academic transcripts, criminal record certificates, or birth certificates — in that case through our express service at Mc LEHM express.
What is the difference between a sworn translation, a certified translation, and an official translation?
These three terms are often used interchangeably, but they are not equivalent in the Spanish legal context.
A sworn translation is the only format with guaranteed legal validity in Spain: it is produced by a translator certified by the MAEC, who signs and seals the document, certifying that the translation is faithful and complete to the original.
“Certified translation” and “official translation” are informal terms sometimes used to refer to the same service, but not every translation labelled “certified” or “official” is produced by a MAEC-accredited sworn translator.
For a document to be recognised before courts, commercial registries, notaries, or public administrations in Spain or abroad, the translator must hold official accreditation from Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation.
What languages do you offer for sworn translation?
We have MAEC-certified sworn translators available for English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Arabic, among other languages. In all cases, the Project Manager assigned to your project confirms availability and turnaround times before the assignment is accepted. All translators, regardless of language, are specialists in legal, financial, and corporate terminology.
What are the turnaround times for a sworn translation?
Most standard documents are delivered within 24 to 48 hours. For tenders or procedures with tight deadlines, we offer an urgent service with 24-hour delivery.
The exact turnaround depends on document volume and language combination. By assigning a dedicated Project Manager to every project, deadline management is built into the service — not an add-on.
